Murray and Bloomfield Police Chief Christopher Goul announced today that Nicholas M. Camasco, 23, of Bloomfield has been charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated assault by auto in connection with the motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, also of Bloomfield.

Camasco turned himself in today. He is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail. Bail was set by the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, J.S.C.

“As the investigation progressed facts were developed that warranted the filing of charges,’’ said Chief Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, noting the case will still be sent to the grand jury.

Lembo was a passenger in a 2007 Honda Civic when a 2000 Chevy Camaro driven by Camasco struck the Honda at approximately 11:10 p.m., killing the 16-year-old. She was pronounced dead a short time later at University Hospital. Four others — two occupants of the Civic and the two occupants of the Camaro — sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in court of law.
