Woman Sentenced to Five Years for Killing Man with Penis Injection

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Kasia Rivera, 38, of East Orange was sentenced today to five years in New Jersey state prison by the Honorable John Zunic, Judge of the Superior Court, for causing the death of Justin Street, 22, also of East Orange, during a illegal procedure to enlarge his penis in 2011.

“This woman had no business injecting anyone with anything,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor William Neafsey, who handled the case.

The state maintained that Rivera, who worked as a bartender in Irvington, injected Street with silicone that was not that kind used for medical procedures, causing an embolism which killed him.

On Sept, 9, just as the case was getting ready to go to trial, Rivera entered a guilty plea to second degree reckless manslaughter. Rivera must serve 85 percent of her sentence before she is eligible for parole. She received credit for 228 days she has already served at the county jail.

As a result of her guilty plea, Rivera could be deported to her native Jamaica.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William Robinson announced today that Kasia N. Rivera, 34, of East Orange was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Justin Street, 22, of East Orange.

On May 5, 2011 Mr. Street went to Rivera’s home in the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue in East Orange where he received a silicon injection in his penis. The next day he died as a result of the injection.

The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was silicone embolism. The death was ruled a homicide.

Following an investigation led by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, with assistance from the East Orange Police, Rivera was arrested today and charged with manslaughter and the unauthorized practice of medicine.
Bail was set at $75,000.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Other potential victims are urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force at 1-877-TIPS-7432 or 1-877-847-7432.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
