Assistant Prosecutor Justin Edwab, who handled the case, said at approximately 10 a.m. on March 28, 2011, Brinson robbed at gunpoint a male Verizon worker who was about to climb a utility pole in the area of 27 Montrose Terrace in Irvington.

Brinson, who was 16 years old at the time, approached the victim, pointed a gun at him and said, “You know what time it is, give me your wallet,’’ according to his statement today in court.

After turning over his wallet to Brinson, the victim attempted to run away and Brinson fired two shots, shooting the victim once in the back. The victim was treated at University Hospital for a gunshot wound to his rear pelvic.

“This was such a callous and senseless crime. The victim had already given his wallet to the defendant but he shot him anyway, ” said Assistant Prosecutor Edwab.

Brinson, who is currently incarcerated, is expected to be sentenced to 14 years when he is sentenced on Sept. 21, 2012 by the Honorable Michael L. Ravin, J.S.C. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
