Murray announced today that Gene L. Muldrow, 35, of Jersey City has been charged with 2nd degree vehicular homicide and driving while his license was suspended – a 3rd degree crime. Muldrow struck and killed Mohammad R. Akhtar, 60, Avenel. The fatal collision occurred earlier this morning in the southbound lane of Route 1&9 in Newark. Muldrow, who was driving a BMW, is in critical condition at UMDNJ. Bail for Muldrow was set at $300,000 by the Honorable Cathy Wasserman, JSC.

These charges are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
