The Essex Victim-Witness Advocacy Office furnishes case information to victims through a series of letters. Victims of crime are provided with case information from the time the case is opened through sentencing. The Office also provides information about parole hearings and informs the victim when the defendant is released from prison. The following events generate automated case status notification letters, when and if they occur: New Cases: The Initial
Contact letter informs victims that the case has been received. A Victim
Impact Statement is solicited for the case screening process. Case screening
determines whether a case stays in Superior Court or is remanded to Municipal
Court. |
